In 2024, the Conservatives proposed putting Sunderland’s City of Sanctuary status to the people in a referendum.

This proposal - to give you a voice - was described as racist by Labour, whilst the Lib Dems said it should not even be up for discussion.

Even Reform - whose only councillor voted to make Sunderland a City of Sanctuary in the first place - mocked our idea.

But the people want to have their say.
