Ashbrooke Conservatives Support Backhouse Park Family Fun Day

This weekend, the local Conservatives in Ashbrooke supported the Backhouse Park Family Fun Day. This has become an annual local event, with the support of ICOS, the park rangers and the Local Conservative councillor for St Michael’s Ward (As it was before 2026).

Despite no longer being councillor anymore, Lyall Reed and Michael Dixon both attended the event on Saturday 6th June to show support, meet residents and take part in activities - including having a great polish sausage!

Sadly, it did not appear that a single one of the new Reform councillor for Tunstall & Humbleon or Grangetown attended the event.

Commenting Lyall Reed said:

“It threatened to rain all day but that didn’t stop  families coming and enjoying the event, from face painting to sports and mediation classes. The local Conservative councillors supported and attended these events every year I was elected and I do hope that the events can continue into the future.

I was talking to the team at ICOS and it looks like over 250 people have attended. Given the cloudy weather I think it was a good showing!”

There remains uncertainty as to if the new Reform councillors for the area would support and help fund the event as the local Conservative did - with even more uncertainty as to if they would continue to fund the East Rangers programme. The East Rangers look after and care for the park and the contract is currently with ICOS and is up for renewal in September.
