Say ‘No’ to the HMO

HMOs have become a problem in Sunderland.

Residents of Roker, Ashbrooke, Thornhill and beyond have had enough of rogue landlords turning family homes into HMOs with no respect for the community or area.

The Sunderland Conservatives have developed a motion to reduce the number of HMOs and stop new ones - a motion that Labour has blocked twice and is trying to block a third time.

It includes:

  1. Citywide Article 4 Directive (Limiting HMO density)

  2. Calls for a covenant to be placed on all Council new builds to prevent HMOs

  3. Conduct an immediate HMO audit and inspections

People want to see a reduction in the number of HMOs in Sunderland
